Tell It to the Marines: SJWs are Inimical to Real Warfighting

— The Professor @ 11:43 am

Everything in the military should be directed to its purpose: winning wars while being sparing of American lives. As Patton said, making the other poor dumb bastard die for his country. The focus should be on lethality, and strategic, operational, and tactical prowess. All other considerations are beyond secondary, because it is a matter of life and death, not to mention national security.

This is why I read with satisfaction that SecDef Mattis wants to focus training on warfighting, not Mickey Mouse:

Notably, Mattis has ordered a review of the “requirements for mandatory force training that does not directly support core tasks” – the many hours soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines spend prior to deployment meeting the Pentagon-required tasks that sometimes have little to do with the role they will actually fulfill when deployed.

“I want to verify that our military policies also support and enhance warfighting readiness and force lethality,” Mattis said.

Damn right. And about time.  To do otherwise puts lives at risk, and jeopardizes the national interest by compromising the ability of the military to fight and win wars.

But real warriors have long been the target of Social Justice Warriors who want to use the military to advance their agendas, even when doing so is inimical to combat effectiveness, either because it diverts resources from primary missions, or because it actually undermines order, discipline, and effectiveness.

The recent kerfuffle over transgenders in the military is a case in point. The whole purpose of making transgenders in the military a cause celebre had nothing at all to do with fighting shooting wars: it was all about fighting the culture war. Some of the attacks on Trump for his bolt-from-the-blue statement that he was overturning the late-in-the-day Obama policy regarding transgenders in the military were rather astounding. One was the commonly repeated statement that there were as many as 15,000 transgendered individuals in the US military. That would be 1 percent of the force: bull. (How many transgenders do you know?) Even the Rand study that was commissioned to advise Obama administration policy put the number at less than half of that–at most–and admits that there is no empirical or epidemiological basis for the number. It is a wild ass guess. Nothing more.

Then there were statements like how terrible it was to exclude transgenders from the military because the suicide attempt rate among them is almost 10 times that of the population at large. Methinks that argument cuts quite the other way: why would you want to put in a high stress environment people who are disproportionately suffering from severe emotional problems? This is not conducive to military effectiveness, and even putting that aside, how is it helping these people? Suicide rates are already above average for military personnel, especially those who have been in combat: tell me how it is compassionate to encourage such emotionally vulnerable individuals to go into a profession that can test every fiber of the far stronger? Indeed, it is sick that transgenders are being used as pawns in the SJW war on convention and majority culture.

My policy recommendation is pretty simple: don’t ask, don’t snip. Apply the same standards of conduct and performance. Those that hack it, fine. Those that can’t–adios. That’s a truly non-discriminatory policy that is consistent with the overriding goal of the military: combat effectiveness.

The recent flap over transgenders sparked by a (go figure) Trump tweet is only the most recent example of the SJW campaign against traditional military norms. One that I’ve been keeping my eye on is efforts to change the Marine Corps, always a bête noire to the left because of its unapologetic, uncompromising stance on traditional standards of the service, and its resistance to PC tripe that the other branches have capitulated to. The anti-USMC vanguard sees an opening due to the recent scandal involving Marines sharing online naked photos of female Marines, often accompanied by unflattering commentary.

Is it gross? Yes. Would I be upset if my daughters were the subject of such indignities? Probably–although I am sure I would tell them that this is a problem easily avoided: don’t pose for (or take yourself) nude photos.

But even granting, for the sake of argument, that the Marine Corps is a socially retrograde institution, out of step with progressive values, and beset with misogyny: I don’t care! I look at the effects of its culture and traditions at achieving the purpose of the organization: on those terms, its record is unparalleled. Do not interfere with any military organization that has achieved a record unblemished by defeat. Do not interfere with any military organization that within the last 100 years has been able to get its men to fight and win horrific battles. There is no other body of troops of similar size that can match its record. Just look at the names: Belleau Wood, some bloody small wars in Central America and Haiti, Wake Island, Guadalcanal, Cape Gloucester, Bougainville, Tarawa, Peleliu, Saipan, Guam, Tinian, Iwo Jima, Okinawa, Inchon, Seoul, the Chosin Reservoir, Hue, Kuwait, Fallujah I and II. Grinding, bloody battles all. Despite often fighting on a shoestring (always being last in line for equipment) and facing grave disadvantages in terrain, protection, and position, and taking grievous casualties, the Marines always prevailed. (Yes, Wake is an exception. But that was a forlorn hope in which the Marines covered themselves in glory.)

When people approached Lincoln with tales of Grant’s drinking, he responded: find out what kind of whiskey he drinks and send a barrel of it to all my generals. I have a similar response to those criticizing the retrograde social attitudes of the Marine Corps.

The truth is that we have little understanding of the unique alchemy that creates an exceptional military force like the Marine Corps. It is possible, and indeed even likely, that the attributes of the Marine Corps that most infuriate SJWs are inseparable from those that make it a nonpareil military force. PC won’t prevail on Peleliu. SJWs won’t take Saipan.

The case for letting Marines be Marines is strengthened by the fact that it is, and always has been (with some modest exceptions in WWII and Vietnam) a volunteer organization. Nobody makes you become Marine, and you should know what you are getting into: in fact, it is precisely that knowledge that induces many to join. Self-selection at work.

I have long admired the Marines, but I knew from my days at Navy that I could never be a Marine in million years–another example of self-selection. But that’s definitely a feature, not a bug. By attracting and retaining people that are suited to the institution’s idiosyncrasies, the Corps has created a culture and esprit that has allowed it to achieve great deeds. It ain’t for everybody. And that’s why it’s great at what it does.

During the recent transgender kerfuffle some criticized using the military to carry out social engineering, to which some objected that the military is nothing but a product of social engineering. But this is not true. Most longstanding military organizations are emergent, not designed or engineered. They are the products of a long evolutionary process. Channeling Hayek, organizations like the Marine Corps are the product of human action, not of the execution of any human design. They have an internal logic that is often tacit and really impossible to understand. One attempts to redesign or manipulate them at one’s peril. Or, more accurately, at ours. For doing things that undermine the effectiveness of the USMC, or of other branches of the US military, gets people killed and undermine the security and interests of the country.

What Next?

Hi gang, sorry for the no-show on here by me; been too busy and there was so much going on around the country I was having trouble deciding what I should sound off about. Well, I found something today that I simply can not pass up. If you have kids, grandkids, great grandkids, their parents should see this and be forewarned.  Be aware the video has some strong language in it as the Dad is REALLY pissed, as I would be and I think you might as well.

Oh, please do not pay any attn to the video that pops up with the queer painting his eye lashes, that’s not the story, go down further and read the story then click on the Dad’s video. BTW, what the hell is gender-fluid??????

Dad fumes about 9-year-old son being asked by doctor if he’s genderfluid in viral video: ‘This is bulls–t’ | Fox News

Can you believe a doctor asked a nine year old boy this question? How dare she do that.

Orwellian America

I somehow knew my Marine brother, Greg, would eventually write something about this insane event overtaking our country.  This is so unbelievable, it defies even trying to explain it using Webster’s words. With that, I’ll let Greg talk about it.

A transgressive disaster                                                   By: G. Maresca

The older I get, my hearing and vision isn’t necessarily the problem; rather, it is believing what I hear and see. To wit: the “Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act” voted on last week in The House of Representatives.

The bill’s resolve is to amend Title IX’s legislation regarding women’s athletics where “sex shall be recognized based solely on a person’s reproductive biology and genetics at birth.” The bill says plenty about the polarization and politicization of transgenderism that is symbolic of today’s devolving culture where an addendum is desperately needed.

Predictably, the vote went strictly along party lines with all Republicans supporting it, while every Democrat voted against it. Given the bill’s necessity in Orwellian America, I couldn’t help but think of one particular episode in the highly acclaimed 2010 HBO series The Pacific that chronicled  the Marine Corps’ numerous island-hopping campaigns during World War II.

The scene upfolds as Marine Eugene Sledge boards an amtrak in the darkened bowels of a navy warship. As the hatch opens to unleash the tracks from their bay, the light is blinding. Within minutes, Sledge and his fellow Marines hit the beaches at Peleliu under extreme fire. Only one percent of those survivors are still with us. I often wonder how they would feel about how their grandchildren are so divided over legislation to protect girls from competing, sharing locker rooms and showers with boys who think they are girls.

What is lost on Democrats is that Title IX was meant to correct sex discrimination, not enforce it.

Are Democrats simply blind loyalists to a deeply flawed political ideology or cowards unable to stand for what they truly believe is right? Or is it that they no longer believe that boys in athletics have innate advantages over girls? Instead, they view the transgendered as victims rather than suffering mentally.

Cue Rod Serling, another decorated World War II veteran, and his notorious Twilight Zone theme. Even Serling’s boundless capacity to write creative futuristic fiction would have an issue with such insanity in 2023 America.

Republican House Speaker Kevin McCarthy spoke truth to power saying, “There’s a reason why there’s men and women’s sports. . . it’s about fairness.” Florida Republican Greg Steube, one of the bill’s sponsors, added that Congress first passed Title IX “to enable women to have an equal playing field in athletics.”

Women have spent decades fighting for equal opportunities and Title IX ensured they had a level playing field. Allowing men to compete against them is its antithesis. Men’s and women’s sports exist due to fairness.  Recall in 2017, a U-15 boys soccer team from Texas beat the world champion USA women’s team 5-2 in a “practice” game.

Seemingly dismissed is how girls are not clamoring to compete against boys. MMA fighter Jack Shields has challenged any gender-confused woman to a bout. Guess how many have accepted?

None.

Such politically driven ideology deprives girls of opportunities as gender is consciously divorced from one’s biological sex. Girls should not be forced to compete against boys in sports. No issue underscores the leftist agenda more than transgenderism that places the desires of the few above the many. Who could possibly be happy with such circumstances and for what reasons? There is nothing woke or progressive in rolling back women’s rights and protections.

The deconstruction of traditional male and female roles has led to confusion that is the impetus for falling birth rates to the decay of the nuclear family.

This legislation puts the rule of law where one cannot change their biological sex at will.  Such insanity begs the question if changing one’s sex is acceptable, what about changing one’s race?

Where are the pink hats of the feminists? They should be justifiably up in arms, but nary a word unless it is anything pro-abortion.  One would hope that all women affected by this ongoing issue would vote accordingly.

However, in today’s Orwellian America that may be too much to ask.

For those who oppose such common sense, the Senate revealed they will not debate it, while President Biden has said provided the bill ever did make it to his desk, he would veto it.

As such, this insanity continues.

Isn’t it amazing the vote went exactly along party lines? I wonder if any those Dems who voted against the bill have any young daughters playing women’s sports, and if there are some, have they told their daughters  how he/she voted? I doubt it. I am really have a tough time with this issue. I simply cannot believe how someone with half a brain could be in favor of this travesty, but then there are lots of things the Dems do and say that defies my understanding.

George Orwell published “1984” in 1949, a year later on January 21, 1950 he succumbed to Tuberculosis. I wonder what his thoughts would be on today’s Orwellian America. I’ve not read “1984”, but I think I might, but hell, why do so, I’m living it..

Boys VS Girls

This country has lost its collective mind! If we, as Americans, don’t finally say enough is enough and take some action, our children will end up misfits, much like the latest generation that grew up during the height of the participation trophy heyday. Actually they are the ones who are pushing this equality equals participation garbage.

I attempted to find the 13 states who allow males to complete against females, but let me merely say, it is a highly muddied topic. I was able to identify a few who do so. Of course, at the top of the list is CA, then came MI, MA, NY, OR, WA, and PA. However,  others have very confusing criteria that I could not ascertain their stand on the issue.  I was shocked to see so many states who attempted to pass laws against transgenders playing in their newly adopted gender sports, but did not pass or the Governor vetoed the law.

What is your state’s rule of law? I do know that in my state those assigned female at birth may participate in boys’ and men’s sports, but those assigned male at birth may not participate in girls’ and women’s sports. Thank you Gov DeSantis.

While You Vacationed                                                       By: G. Maresca

Once school was dismissed back in June, the U.S. Department of Education, another federal bureaucratic dinosaur that has outlived its function if it ever had one, published 700 pages of gratuitous regulations concerning Title IX.

Title IX is the civil-rights law that bans discrimination on the basis of gender in any educational program funded by the federal government. When Title IX was enacted in 1972, it was to safeguard access for women in education and said nothing about athletics. That soon changed as Title IX remedied the dearth of women’s sports teams especially on college campuses with the purpose of equalizing the field of play.

A plethora of athletic scholarships soon followed.

It is no understatement to say that Title IX has become one of the most far-reaching and controversial laws of our time. In essence, it has turned a benevolent ideal into an Orwellian flummox.

Title IX’s latest changes are being touted by the National Education Association as a great victory. Such a blatant overstatement raises it share of red flags. Allow me to hoist a few.

Celebrating its 50th anniversary Title IX is showing its age in a pathetic attempt to jump on the transgender bandwagon. As the Child and Parental Rights Campaign website clarified among those 700-pages, gender identity is now defined as transgenderism where one’s biological gender means nothing. Schools are to support transitioning children without parental consent. This is already happening in California.

Schools have no right to usurp parental authority in directing the education and medical decisions for their children.

Outright dismissed is the mutilation done to children’s bodies. It was in July that the FDA admitted how puberty blockers can cause brain swelling and loss of sight, while hormone treatments can result in sterilization. Then there are the inestimable emotional scars.

Allowing male transgenders to compete against women handcuffs women’s athletics. The left does not comprehend that Title IX was never meant to allow males to compete against female athletes all the while violating their locker room privacy.

Fairness in competition is underscored in boxing. No one wants to watch a fight between a featherweight and a heavyweight, as it is simply unfair. So, too, is a competition between a transgender male and a biological female.

In sports, biology certainly matters; it is why women’s sports exist. When biological reality is dismissed, women pay a hefty price. With women losing to transgenders who are biological males under the auspices of Title IX has to be the greatest of ironies as it makes a mockery of women’s athletics.

You can thank Obama’s administration when Joe Biden was vice president that decided Title IX should also safeguard sexual orientation and gender identity. The Supreme Court then mitigated the legal meaning of both placing women’s sports in a free fall back to their starting line.

In its wake the Title IX phenomenon has advanced the development and growth of the nation’s college sports industrial complex that begs the question of how much true intrinsic value does it bestow upon higher education. The administrative state on college campuses has metastasized under the auspices of Title IX, where an army of bureaucrats waving the flag of diversity, equity and inclusion have been hired to ensure all regulatory requirements are adhered to.

Athletic competition for women was established because physical differences between the genders should not prevent any woman from competing. Once upon a time in America if you took such an opportunity away from a woman, you were a misogynist. In Biden’s America, it is called equality.

Title IX was meant to correct sex discrimination, not enforce it.

Thirty-seven states have enacted protections to preserve women’s athletics. These Title IX proposed federal changes will challenge all prior state legislative decisions.

Before reality is turned on its head, you can make a difference.

Statements are being accepted through September 12 at the Federal Register and must be original as scripting of comments (cut and paste) are not acceptable because any identical comment will be counted as just one. The Child and Parental Rights Campaign website does provide ideas in their “comment starter letters” section.

Exercise your right to be heard as the future of America’s children lie in the balance.
