Scum Bowl

I delayed posting on this subject until the storm and rage from my Marine and Navy friends on the internet and in phone calls died down. Actually, they haven’t stopped, but at least it’s only a dribble now. I’ll not belabor the point because my stand on the subject closely resembles what my friends are saying, and perhaps you will agree as well. So, I’ll be brief and wait to see your thoughts.

This was number 60, and I remember number one and every one after that, especially when my favorite team of the time, the Baltimore Colts, played in numbers 3 and 5. This game is highlighted as the greatest sporting event of the year in America. And for that POS Goodell to have booked a halftime show featuring some singer I don’t know who sang in a foreign language is the most egregious thing I have ever experienced in my lifetime.

I spent nearly 36 years of my adult life serving this once-wonderful country, giving much of my blood, sweat, and tears, and to see such a slap in the face of true Americans was totally unacceptable to me. I did watch a minute or two to see what all the huppla was about. Once I saw it, I changed to the alternate half-time show with Kid Rock, as did millions of Americans. 

So, here is my stand. My TVs will never be tuned to any NFL game until the team owners speak out as true Americans and shit can that POS Goodell. I’ll watch NCAA football. In fact, I’ll watch girls’ flag football before I allow that SOB Goodell to embarrass my country again.

If this is not the saddest article I have ever read about the educational system of the richest country in the world, I don’t know what is. And this all happened right before our eyes, and with the help of the U.S. Department of Education. It’s absolutely pathetic. Taking out a loan to pay a university/college thousands of dollars for a degree in something you think is cool at the time, and then have to go flip burgers at McDonald’s and live with mom and dad because the parchment paper is worth anything in the job market. But you were cool and had fun, right? And now that mean old government wants its loan paid back. What a cruel world it is.

Of course, you could join the military. Oh, but wait. The latest stats I’ve read suggest that 70% of 18-25-year-olds are not physically or mentally qualified to join the military. Oops

The academic world is as much to blame for this as are the foolish students. While all this goes on, the Harvards and the Yales get richer and richer.

Why Unemployment is Rising Among Young College Grads

It’s the best of times for Wall Street bulls and the worst of times for young college grads. The Dow Jones Industrial Average on Friday smashed a record and crossed 50000 amid renewed optimism about the economy. Meantime, unemployment among young college grads has risen to recession levels. Behold a tale of two labor markets.

Unemployment declined last year for college non-graduates and ticked up slightly for older grads, though it is still lower than average historically. Yet new data from the New York Federal Reserve Bank last week showed that unemployment among college grads age 22 to 27 rose to 5.6% in December, roughly what it was in February 2009 during the financial panic.

Artificial intelligence isn’t taking their jobs. Young grads’ struggles started before AI went mainstream. Between 1990 and 2014, unemployment for young college grads was generally 1 to 3 percentage points lower than for all workers. The gap started to tighten around 2014 and reversed in late 2018. Unemployment for young college grads is now about 1.4 points higher than for all workers.

The real problem is a mismatch between labor supply and demand. Government subsidies and public schools have funneled too many young people to credential mills, which churn out grads who lack the skills that employers demand. Many would be better off training in skilled trades, for which demand is enormous.

More than half of high-school grads matriculate to college, even though only 35% of 12th graders score proficient in reading and 22% in math on the National Assessment of Educational Progress. This suggests that many college students aren’t academically prepared or even inclined. But colleges ensure they graduate just the same by handing out A’s for no effort.

U.S. colleges awarded 2.2 million bachelor’s degrees last year, about twice as many as in 1990. That’s also double the number of associate’s degrees. Another 860,000 Americans last year received a master’s degree, nearly triple the 1990 figure. Nearly 40% of Americans with a bachelor’s now have an advanced degree.

Colleges have added graduate programs in fields like urban planning, sustainability and fine arts to rake in more federal dollars. Students had been allowed to take out unlimited federal loans for graduate studies until last summer’s GOP tax bill capped borrowing at $200,000 for professional degrees (like medicine or law) and $100,000 for others.

One result: Young college grads enter a labor market that is saturated with heavily credentialed workers. But they have less work experience and are often less productive than their older counterparts. Many skated through college by relying on AI to do their work. Take ChatGPT away, and they struggle to function.

Some also struggle with executive functioning because of disability accommodations in high school and college that allowed them extra time to complete tests and assignments. More than 20% of undergrads at Harvard and Brown and 38% at Stanford have registered disabilities.

Employers are required by law to make accommodations for disabled workers, but that doesn’t mean they have to hire someone who can’t meet a deadline or doesn’t want to work on a weekend because she’s “cooked.” Or for that matter, someone who needs his hand held all the time—a common employer gripe about recent grads.

Next, consider the demand side of the labor market. Retirements are increasing as the population ages. Last year the number of Americans on Social Security increased by two million, about double the average increase over the prior decade. Resulting job vacancies in the trades are going unfilled because of a dearth of skilled workers.

The National Federation of Independent Business reported last week that 31% of small-business owners had job openings they couldn’t fill, compared with a historical average of 24%. A Montana construction firm told the survey: “The biggest issue for our business is finding workers who want to work and finish an apprenticeship.”

An Ohio manufacturer noted that “skilled machinists are not available. We tried for years to get one.” A Connecticut manufacturer mused that “the need for trades is desperate in order for businesses to continue in this country. When the older workforce finally feels able to retire and live a comfortable life, who is going to take their place?” Not young college grads.

The Federal Reserve’s latest survey of businesses observed that while demand for workers has softened, “firms reported continued challenges finding skilled labor, particularly in engineering, health care, and other trades.” The report added: “AI’s current impact on employment was limited, with more significant effects anticipated in the coming years rather than immediately.”

Which suggests the job market for young grads could get worse in the years to come. If rote work is all that college grads are capable of, why not employ AI instead? ChatGPT, after all, never complains or gets cooked.

Lord Help Us

I received an email this morning from a reliable source that contained an article allegedly written by one Dave Ramsey. I replied to the email asking if I could have Dave’s original email because I wanted to contact him. I don’t know if this is the same Dave Ramsey that I knew back in 1965 when he was a fresh-caught 2dLt. out of TBS. The Dave I know graciously wrote the Foreword for my book. I was his first plt sgt in Co B, Schools Demonstration Troops (SDT) at Quantico, VA, in 1965. Dave retired as a Col, USMCR. It may not be the same Dave Ramsey. It could be the Dave Ramsey from Ramsey Solutions, but it doesn’t matter.

Dave says it all. I’m certain any one of us on here could have written it exactly as he did. We live in a strange, upside-down, aggravating, dangerous, and frustrating world. I am of the opinion that our country is on the brink of total disaster, much moreso than many countries throughout the world. To even consider that there are countries that are doing very well today, while we slowly crumble. Sadly, we have no one to blame but ourselves.  And it appears the only thing we can do about it is await the second coming of the Lord.

It was cool for Joe Biden to “blackmail” the President of Ukraine, but it’s an impeachable offense if Donald Trump inquires about it. People who have never been to college should pay the debts of college students who took out huge loans for their degrees. Immigrants with tuberculosis and polio are welcome, but you’d better be able to prove your dog is vaccinated. Irish doctors and German engineers who want to immigrate to the US must go through a rigorous vetting process, but any illiterate gang-bangers who jump the southern fence are welcomed. Five billion dollars for border security is too expensive, but $1.5 trillion for “free” health care is not. If you cheat to get into college, you go to prison, but if you cheat to get into the country, you go to college for free. And, pointing out all this hypocrisy somehow makes us “racists”! Nothing makes sense anymore, no values, no morals, no civility, and people were dying of a Chinese virus, but it was racist to refer to it as Chinese, even though it began in China. We are clearly living in an upside-down world where right is wrong and wrong is right, where moral is immoral and immoral is moral, where good is evil and evil is good, where killing murderers is wrong, but killing innocent babies is right. Wake up, America. The great unsinkable ship Titanic America has hit an iceberg, is taking on water, and sinking fast.”

“The Tun”

Well, after all the many years of hard work, dedication, and perseverance, it’s finally happening Marines. We as Marines always took pride in the fact that we were born in bar. And now the tavern is being rebuilt. From the website “TheTun.org” here’s the report:

Livingston, USMC, (Ret.), joined representatives from the six organizations with a heritage at The Tun in Philadelphia for a groundbreaking ceremony in Philadelphia on November 10, 2024, the 249th birthday of the United States Marines Corps. The Tun Legacy Foundation, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is rebuilding the historic Tun, the birthplace of the Marines, to coincide with the 250th birthday of the United States Marine Corps in 2025 and America250 in 2026. In a nod to The Tun’s significance in the history of the Marines, participants in the groundbreaking used hand-held entrenching tools (E-Tools) for the ceremony.

The Marine in the daper sport coat (5th from the left) is MGen James (“Jungle Jim”) Livingston who was my Regimental Commander when I had 2/6 back in 1987-88. For some reason I was not aware of this event for had I known about it, I would have been there. I will tell you this though, I will be there for the commemoration planned for the Corps’ 250th birthday! Care to join me?

Electile Dysfunction

I had (and still have) since Tuesday 3 November 2020 believed in my heart of hearts that the election was the worse thing that happened in America in my lifetime. But as usual with the help of our infamous left leaning media, we as Constitutional loving Americans turned a blind eye to all the evidence. Even the dumbest, non-caring, self-centered  scumbag alive should have been able to clearly see that America had become a third-world shithole as far as the ability to hold a legal national election. I was literally beside myself and became the angriest person alive to my family and friends. I am sure that my thirty-six years of blood, sweat, and tears to this once great nation had much to do with my angst.

Then the democratic party immediately began attacking Trump with the help of their appointed gang of misfits throughout the administration who were appointed to positions of authority not because because of their experience or knowledge, but due to their race, being queer, or female, or transgender. Such a disgrace for a country founded on the principles of justice.

Numbers can’t lie. Since the dust has settled on the 2024 presidential election, the dustup on the 2020 election begs many questions. The numbers don’t add up or add up way too much thanks to being able to multiply after hours.

The disparity between the two elections was telling with Trump winning the Electoral College in 2024: 312 to 226 and the popular vote by over three million: 75,579,513 to 72,420,967.

Trump’s electoral victory was the most by a Republican since 1988 and his third presidential election win in a row.

Barack Obama received 69 million votes in 2008 and 65 million in 2012. In 2020, Sleepy Joe Biden’s basement campaign collected 81 million.  Trump had massive rallies, while Biden couldn’t draw flies.

Early returns had Trump winning but like a political vampire rising before dawn, Biden’s crop of absentee ballots, vote harvesting and drop boxes rolled in by the truckload as the steal was on.  Taking advantage of COVID, democrats refused to “never let a crisis go to waste.”

One of the biggest miscarriages of justice in American politics was the premeditated, unabashed, and overt theft of the 2020 presidential election by democrats, the mainstream media, and left-wing elitists.

Stolen elections, however, are nothing new to the American political landscape.

In 1960, Democrats stole the election for John F. Kennedy. He won Illinois by 8,858 votes thanks to Chicago Mayor Daley’s political machine. Texas, home of Kennedy’s Vice President Lyndon Johnson, was in on the theft, too.

Does anyone really believe they run fair elections in Detroit, Philadelphia, Atlanta, and New York, where big-city democrat machines have dominated for over a century?

In the 1992 presidential election while covering in Columbia County, Pennsylvania, I was told before the polls opened that democrats are always ahead by at least 500 votes. This was Columbia County, not Chicago and more than 30 years ago.

At 92, longtime conservative avantgarde Phyllis Schlafly summed it up: “Why wouldn’t people who kill babies also steal elections?”

In both 2016 and 2020, the presidential race was decided by a few ten thousand voters dispersed across a handful of battleground states. These mostly urban voting precincts utilize the hackable Dominion voting machines that made late night ballot dumps feasible and unverifiable.  Biden won Georgia by 11,779 votes; Arizona by 10,457; and Wisconsin by 20,682.

All margins that can be overcome with a collective effort.

During this year’s Casey/McCormick senate race, election officials openly defied a 2023 Pennsylvania Supreme Court decision by counting illegal ballots attempting to usurp the initial results that favored McCormick, the republican challenger.

Bestselling author Dinesh D’Souza exposes the voting fraud that you were told didn’t exist in the film “2000 Mules.”  Why have laws on proof of voter eligibility and ballot counting requirements and deadlines if they aren’t enforced?

Without enforcement anarchy reigns.

Republicans failed to call out the big cheat immediately in the 2020 election and until the malefactors are identified, convicted, and imprisoned, such nefarious criminality at some point will resurface.

Harris collected about nine million fewer votes than Biden in 2020.

Yet, many still believe the 2020 election was untainted. What is outright dismissed and forgotten is how a stolen election would nullify any legislation passed over the last four years.

The aftermath of 2020’s coup d’état that undermined our constitution has resulted in dozens of lawsuits and an army of trained poll watchers that produced fewer delays and a more consistent and timely accounting in 2024.

This is the first of three presidential elections where Trump won the popular vote including the Electoral College. The 72 million votes tallied for Harris is more than Hillary Clinton’s 65 million in 2016 when she lost to Trump. It is on par with Obama’s 69 million votes in 2008, and higher than Obama’s 65 million when he won a second term in 2012.

With Trump having won the 2020 election, democrats are drafting articles of impeachment that made him ineligible to run in 2024.  Other democrat initiatives include counting illegal ballots to prevent any Republican “threat to democracy” and if that doesn’t work abolishing the popular vote altogether.

When Harris implored “we are not going back,” she was wrong again.

We are going back – to a road leading faithfully forward.
