My Open Letter to Mr. Mattis

I thought long and hard about this post, but after doing my due diligence to get the full drift of your senseless, destructive, undeserving slander of our president, I cannot hold back. Just so you know, this is from a retired Marine colonel who spent nearly as much time in uniform as you. And considering my love of the Corps and my brothers and sisters, it does not bother me one bit to state without any equivocation you are a disgrace to our Marine uniform.

Who do you think you are to speak out in such a disgraceful manner against a sitting president? Do you believe your rank entitles you to talk such trash? By your recent actions and words, you’ve aligned yourself with the Hollywood trash who think anyone with half a brain would take anything they say with a grain of salt. You Mr. Mattis (I will not call you by your rank — you do not deserve it) are a disgrace to my Corps. I believe the only people who genuinely care about what you said are your fellow Marines who are disgusted with your pompous ass.

According to your own words you have over 7,000 books in your library. It’s now obvious to me you have not read any of them. You said, “We must not be distracted by a small number of lawbreakers.” WHAT? Are you kidding me? Where have you been lately, under a rock? Countless people killed and injured including many police officers, millions and millions of dollars’ worth of buildings destroyed and burned to the ground, many privately-owned stores and commercial establishments who had just opened after being closed because of the virus, all gone. Major stores looted; nothing left on the shelves. Yet you call that a small number of lawbreakers?

Then the biggest lie of all is when you state no president in your lifetime has been as divisive as President Trump. Where were you during the eight years of Obama? Oh, that’s right he fired your ass too. It seems the only arena in which you have been able to keep a job is in the military. Hmm, what does that tell me? Remember Mr. Mattis, I was there, well before you.

I always had my doubts about you especially after you fired a great Marine friend of mine whom I had a small hand in shaping his career. He told me things about you that caused me to believe you were nothing more than an egotistical liberal. I was, however, surprised when you took the job offered by President Trump to be our Sec Def.  But then he too fired your ass. I have not researched it in detail, but I do believe you are the first general to ever be fired by two sitting presidents, the first a liberal racist and the other a conservative doer. How does that feel? How’s that for a legacy?

You Mr. Mattis are a despicable, egotistical, self-centered person of no value to my country.

Signed; Jim Bathurst, Col, USMC (Ret)

  1. Right on target and articulately expressed. Semper Fi!

  2. As much as I miss my Daddy, 1ST SGT Richard W Case, Korean War Veteran, I’m so thankful he’s not here to see how his Corps has been disgraced.

  3. Carlos, here we go again — he resigned. Really? You keep believing that. And as far as him not marrying not having kids. Ha, that sir is the problem as Soyuz will read in my next post. Please go away sir and spew your liberal BS with someone who cares. I don’t.

  4. Thank you sir for expressing what so many Marines are thinking. Thank you for your service. Semper Fi.

  5. As a “no longer active”Marine,I disagree with the way the General publicly dressed down the sitting President of the United States. Obviously you don’t have to agree with him or his methods, but it can be done in a more subtle, respectful wAy. Just my opinion!Semper Fi

  6. You wouldn’t know a traitor if he jumped up, bit you on the arse, and then yelled I’m a traitor.

  7. Thank you Sir. I too researched Mattis. Not impressed with him or his disgraceful speech. My country has served in all branches since the revolution and even though I myself never have I would never disrespect the president (even ones who did not warrant respect).
Thank you for your service. I am a Navy brat and a blue star mom (my son served in Iraq). God bless you🙏🏻❤️

    1. Bless you Nancy, please be safe and strong, we shall survive this horrific barrage of useful idiots.

  8. Col., I couldn’t agree more with your assessment. “Saint” Mattis is only sounding like a sorry loser and sadly, so is John Kelly. It has alaways been my contention that when an 06 is striving to get that first star, he is no longer a Marine, he is now a politician. They all have the same experiences as other Marine officers but they have separated themselves from the essence of Marine and becaome self-serving in their quest for that next star. Mattis has become entranced and became a victim of his own publicity. He began to believe that he really was “CHAOS”, “St. Mattis”, and that “He kept others awake at night”. Did he really believe it was because of his business acumen he was remunerated over $900K for a seat on a board of directors?
To all the retired brass, Harry Callahan said it best: “A man’s got to know his limitations.”
May God bless you and protect you, Colonel.

    1. LOL LOL LOL LOL OMG , here comes the never-trumper spewing more party lines. Shut up fool. As Lenin called them, you are nothing more than a “Useful Idiot.”

  9. Thank you, Col, for saying what sorely needed saying!!!! May God bless.

  10. USMARINES JUNE 21, 1955 TO SEPT 1,1969 NC National Guard Sept 2,1969 to May 31,1996. I have several years in the Military. Semper FI

  11. Our Country is just about split down the mIddle politically and the sides so opposed in ideology that it has become adversarial. My fear was that it might find it’s way into our Military. With Generals (retired) from both the Army and Marine Corps openly criticizing the President is seems to be happening. I would expect more of our Generals. Their sound bites will be picked by a liberal press and heard by active duty. They must consider the effect on our Military Branches, they cannot be divided as our political system. At ease Generals think before you speak. JOHN KELLY 1SG USA, Ret.

  12. I, too, am former Marine Corp, Col. Jim. Michael Parlan is damn sure entitled to his opinion, and you and I would fight for his right to express his opinion. Wonder if he would do the same for you and I. Where were you in 68′-70′, Micheal ?? Where were you during the Gulf War , Iraq and Afghanistan, Michael ? My guess is that you have no frigging idea how a Marine thinks, or what he’s been through in training.
Col. Jim is right on….Mattis is a puke and a disgrace, right up there with Colin Powell, Romney, Bush and McCain.

  13. This is precisely why no other branch of the military will take you once you have been in the marines!

  14. I respect General Mattis, but I do think he is wrong. It seems once one reaches a certain rank, they become Politicians. Semper Fi

  15. Having come from a Multiple Generation Military family and having spent my entire adult live in the Military and working for the Military I was taught that you don’t make any negative comments about a duly elected and sitting President, in or out of Uniform. You may not like the President as a person and you may not like the way they do certain things or how they give orders or direction but they are the ones that were elected and they’re the Commander and Chief, that’s the bottom line. The Oath of Enlistment is clear ( “I [state your full name], Do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and
allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God. The Honorable thing to do, if you are a Man of Honor, is to adhere to that Oath til the day they put you in the ground.

  16. Sir,
Although I am disappointed in the General’s comments and generally agree with your counters, I feel a little more respect to the rank was required in your rebuttal. I sometimes didn’t agree with the decisions of those senior to me (especially the previous administration) but I enforced and supported those decisions, to the best of my ability. Tact and courtesy, in your statements (no matter how strongly you felt), would have shown a little more professionalism.

    1. Thank you for your comment Master Guns. Tact? Courtesy? Towards Mr. Mattis? Can’t do it sir. The man is full of bravado. I respect the rank of general, that’s not my problem with him, although there are things he did and said as a general I disagreed with. My problem is with the Mr. Mattis.
